I don't know what some of these people are talking about! Are folks this bereft of patience and sense? This is an above average app, not great but, for what it is it doesn't have to be. WD Passport Shows Up on my Mac but not on Windows t0pher Apr 2, 2014, 5:32 PM I just built a new PC and my WD 1TB Passport external hard drive shows up fine on my Mac laptop but won't appear on. Quickbooks on mac. I have been using a WD My Passport 1TB USB Portable for almost 2-3 months now. I am currently in college so I have A LOT of school files and document stored in it. Milos, Thank for the tutorial link. I followed the directions in the tutorial but cannot get past the screen ' Create a new pool and storage space' because the drives do not show up in the 'Unformatted' or 'Formatted' list of drives available to create a storage pool. Note that the drives are USB 3.0 (USB 2.0 compatible) connected to my computer and are recognized by Windows 8 in 'Computer'. I also have a WD Passport Essentials 1TB and a WD My Book Home Edition 1TB USB 2.0 connected that are not recognized by 'Storage Spaces' but recognized by W8 'Computer'. WD indicated that these drives are simple external hard drives with an SES driver. WD has recommended that this issue be brought to Microsoft's attention and that I return the newly purchased drives to the seller if I cannot get them to be recognized by 'Storage Spaces'. I have also posted this issue on WD's support blog for the My Passport drives. I am interested in initially creating an 6 TB + 250 GB hard drive (free space only) storage pool and eventually adding the 2 x 1TB drives for a final 8TB + 250 GB hard drive storage pool (Note that both the 2 x 1TB drives have data on them so I cannot use them in the storage pool until I move the data to the 6TB initial storage pool). Any ideas on how to get the drives recognized? Ok I just figured out what the deal was in my case. This WD USB hard drive works fine on my GF's laptop but it was giving me the 'device not recognized' error on my computer. I use a USB extender cable so I do not have to get down on the ground and plug stuff into my USB ports behind my computer. Everything that I own works through this cable except the WD passport drive. (It is a 2.0 USB cable at that so that is not the issue, plus 1.0 should theoretically still work, just not at 2.0 speeds) SO.I tried to plug it directly into the USB port on the back of my computer and it worked instantly. Other people have reported a fix after finding that their cable was loose. This USB cable that comes with the drive seems to be picky for some reason. Perhaps these are faulty cables somehow. Hopefully this will help some people. I was pounding my head against the wall over this one. I can't find any specific thread.would have been nice if they provided a link. I haven't taken a USB hard drive apart before but there should be a way to take the hard drive out of the casing and plug it into your computer internally. It should detect it as another hard drive in your system and you should be able to access the files. That is pretty much what you would pay a data recovery place to do.
